Why are many of the biggest CBD companies like Pure Hemp Botanicals offering gummies? Well, it’s simple: many consumers prefer supplements in gummies that taste great and still deliver the desired compounds in an easy-to-measure format. COVID-19 appears to have driven an interesting consumer shift in supplements delivery preferences. Traditionally supplements were marketed in tablet, softgel, or liquid form to adults. As elderly and children often didn’t like to, or refused to take these, gummies were developed. But after 2019, the world saw a huge increase in the gummy format for delivery of vitamins and other supplements:

The chart shows the amount of money spent by consumers on gummies in 2019, and predicts that if current trends continue, more than $11 billion will be spent worldwide on supplements and vitamins in gummies by 2026. Gummy use will more than double.(1)
Which Cannabinoids Are Being Studied to Learn if they Might Help With Sleep or Anxiety Disorders?
For thousands of years and across continents, hemp-derived cannabinoids like CBD have been used for a myriad of complaints from pain to anxiety to seizures. In centuries past whole plant hemp extracts were used, (but mostly as tinctures and teas – gummies are a fun, modern development!) Recently, scientists have begun to look into these historical claims and are studying many, especially after some legal changes enacted in 2014 relaxed rules making it easier for universities and other publicly funded institutions to conduct studies of hemp and its extracts.
In one recent study entitled: “Cannabidiol in Anxiety and Sleep: A Large Case Series,” the researchers explained their impetus in this introduction:
“Many different cultures have used the Cannabis plant to treat a plethora of ailments. Practitioners in ancient China targeted malaria, menstrual symptoms, gout, and constipation. During medieval times, cannabis was used for pain, epilepsy, nausea, and vomiting, and in Western medicine it was commonly used as an analgesic. In the US, physicians prescribed Cannabis sativa for a multitude of illnesses until restrictions were put in place in the 1930s.”
So, really, cannabinoids have been well-known and much-used by our founding fathers until quite recently for a huge variety of bodily imbalances. These same researchers decided to tackle the questions of whether CBD helps improve sleep and/or anxiety in 103 people. Patients reported improvements in both regards, but more powerfully for anti-anxiety. About 80% experienced a decrease in anxiety. Sleep improved for more than ⅔ with sleep disorders but their improvements leveled off. As is usual, the researchers suggested more studies with a larger group were needed before these outcomes could be verified.(2)
Pure Hemp Botanicals Pure Balance CBD Gummies incorporate the full spectrum of 100% pure hemp-extracted cannabinoids as delicious gummies. As we’ve seen in earlier blogs, scientists are unsure exactly which compounds from the hemp plant give the best results to the most people, so we try to preserve all of hemp’s natural compounds in our Pure Balance Gummies — including natural terpenoids, flavonoids, as well as cannabinoids.
Is CBD All We’ve Got for Sleep?
Did you know that research on research testing whether cannabinol (CBN) helps improve sleep dates back to the 1970’s? A group of researchers studied 99 published trials with humans that had been published in PubMed/MEDLINE and found that, as is typical in this industry, that there is insufficient published evidence to make a firm conclusion. Researchers suggested that more randomized controlled trials were needed to learn if products containing CBN helped with sleep long term or not.(3)
Pure Hemp Botanicals Pure Sleep Gummies contain CBD, CBN, and melatonin which is well documented to improve sleep quality. Our line of melatonin- and CBN-rich Pure Sleep products include a tincture with extra relaxing terpenes and a softgel, but the gummies are the most popular! These gummies make a delicious bed-time snack in Orange Dreamsicle flavor – what else? We hope you enjoy a great night’s sleep!
If You Have Serious Sleep or Anxiety Problems, Talk to Your Physician
As we have read, more research is needed before we understand just how CBD may be helpful in supporting our nervous system as a whole, and how it may restore homeostasis to many other bodily systems when they are out of balance. Like any supplement, CBD gummies may interact with certain medications and may not be suitable for everyone. However, for those looking for all-natural ways to support health, CBD is non-toxic, natural option to consider, one that our ancestors used with confidence. Be sure to keep gummies away from children who may mistake them for candy!
