As some states in the U.S. are still implementing stay at home orders and recommend limiting your outings to essential trips, the days can feel quite mundane and lacking adventure. If you feel antsy, cooped up, and need some adventure, perhaps a change of scenery, here are some fun ideas for you and your family. You can do these activities safely outdoors while remaining socially distant from anyone outside of your household.

1. Park Adventure

Go out to an open field or park on a breezy day with your family or just you. Pack a picnic lunch, bring a book, or a kite to fly. Move your body, play some games, get some sun on your skin, or enjoy some quiet time with your favorite book and some hemp ice tea. Our Hemptealicious™ Spearmint Lemongrass tea is great over ice on a warm day.

2. Adventure Around The World Virtually

Get out a map and play a game with your family or look into a place you wish to visit someday. Pick an area of the world that spikes your curiosity. Search for videos and recipes from that part of the world. Cook up a unique international meal and introduce yourself to new flavors. This may take some planning, as you may need to shop for new ingredients you don’t already have in your pantry. Watch an international film, nature documentary, or a series on international food and culture. Youtube has so many travel videos from destinations worldwide and cooking videos on how to make any international food dish you can think of. Explore and use the internet as a tool to learn new things and take virtual adventures. Taking a deep dive into a new culture, scenery, and beautiful imagery from other parts of the globe can stimulate your mind and enhance your creativity. You can experience diversity inside your home.

3. Camping

If you live near an open campground and can get a reservation, taking the family out for a weekend camping adventure is an excellent way to break up the time at home and safely have a vacation. If you are able to social distance from other campers, this is a great outing you can do in your surrounding area without traveling far. Immersing yourself in nature for a whole day or two is so refreshing, and you will likely come home feeling rejuvenated. If you aren’t able to go to a campground, set up a backyard campout complete with a little smores, stargazing, and sleeping in a tent. Your kids will love it!

4. Grow Something

Since you are probably spending much more time at home, planting a garden, or even one plant like a sunflower or strawberry is a good activity. Watch it grow and enjoy the flowers or fruits it produces. If gardening is nothing new for you, plant something different like an herb to make fresh teas. Growing plants that produce food can bring satisfaction and joy. It is a rewarding feeling when you get to clip fresh herbs or veggies you grew and use them in your cooking. Gardening also has stress-relieving benefits that contribute to better health and connect you to nature.

5. Nature Photography

Get out and take a drive through your town. Stop where you see beautiful flowers, gardens, or artwork. Take photos and share them on your social media or create your own nature album. Get outdoors in the evening when the sunset colors fill the sky and capture moments full of color. Put together your top ten summer sunset images. This activity can also help you get in your daily exercise. Walk while you take pictures. Outdoor walks will help relieve stress and support your mental and physical well being and decrease stress.

In the meantime, options for adventure and travel are limited. Find creative ways to explore, stay active, and enjoy your summer. Check out our blog for recipe ideas, and self-care tips. Be well and stay safe, we are all in this together.
